117. Sing praises to Him

Just after Moses' long speech, he continues in a song reminding them of everything he just said. The song gives a brief history of Israel. It reminds the people of their mistakes, warns them to avoid repetition of those mistakes and offers hope that comes only in trusting God. God had commanded him to sing this song:

"Now write down the words of this song, and teach it to the people of Israel. Teach them to sing it, so it might serve as a witness against them." Deuteronomy 31:19

It is wonderful to see how music is used throughout the Bible. And here music is used to help people to remember what Moses just told them. A song is easier to remember than a speech. So this song will remind them of what they are supposed to do and it warns them to not drift away from what God had planned for them.

There are several more examples of music in the Bible. King David used music to bring comfort, to sing praises to God and to teach people His ways. Miriam also used music to celebrate their great escape from the Egyptians at the Red Sea. And in Revelation 15 all the people who had been victorious over the antichrist and the devil will stand before God, holding harps that He had given them. And they will sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb:

"Great and marvellous are Your actions, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are Your ways, O King of the nations. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before You, for Your righteous deeds have been revealed." Revelation 15:3, 4

Spiritual songs are powerful and have the ability to lift you up and to provide Word to you when you need it most. I have found spiritual gospel songs uplifting and nourishment for my spirit. I truly feel more alive when I listen to it and sing along. I feel God's presence so much closer when I use music to praise and worship Him. God has also used music to speak to my heart. It has happened a couple of times that I had to make a decision of some sort and a gospel song will well up in my heart confirming just what I had to do. I have found it very helpful.

I have gospel music on as often as I can in the car, not that all secular music is evil; I just like to have the closeness of God surrounding me. It gives me peace, it teaches me and it brings me into His presence. My wish is that the same will be true for you. Let us enjoy the wonderful gift of music and lift our hearts towards Him.

Thank you God for music. Music is such a wonderful gift from You to be enjoyed. We cannot wait for the day that we can all be in Your presence and sing along the orchestra of all ages, praising and loving You. Amen
